Rates may increase if the power situation in Luzon continues in the coming days, an official of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said Saturday.
“May naganap na yellow alert kahapon. In the event na magpapatuloy ito, itong kamakailan ay madalas maganap ang yellow alert status, it will [have] impact [on the] rates,” Meralco’s Joe Zaldarriaga told radio dzBB.
Zaldarriaga explained that during a yellow alert, power plants make adjustments that may impact the rates, which may result to rate adjustments by Meralco.
The Meralco official, however, clarified that the power firm will increase its rates only if the suppliers have sent them higher bills.
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) raised the yellow alert over the Luzon grid on Friday due to outages in several power plants.
