Meralco rates to go up this month: sources

The country’s largest power distributor, Manila Electric Co. Meralco, announced Tuesday that charges would go up this month, according to ABS-CBN sources.

The generation charge, which the utility pays to power producers, will increase by P0.34 per kilowatt hour, but this will be offset by a decrease in transmission charges, resulting in a net increase of P0.29 per kwh.

This will result in a P58 increase in the monthly bill of households that consume an average 200 kwh, P87 for those who use 300 kwh, P116 for those who consume 400 kwh and P145 for those who use 500 kwh.
